Disaster Recovery
Background
Although a multinational manufacturer were spending considerable time and money on their backups, they were never confident that they could fully restore their servers in the event of a disaster.

Solution
Storage OnLine proposed their Disaster Recovery service. As part of the service, an engineer from Storage OnLine setup set up and fully documented disaster recovery procedures for each of the company’s critical servers. These disaster recovery procedures were then tested on a regular basis to ensure that the backups were complete and that the company were compliant with their Disaster Recovery Plan.
Storage OnLine advised the company to purchase a “test server” on which to perform the test recoveries. Recoveries were tested from each of the company’s critical servers to this test server. Once the recovery was complete, the “live server” was powered down and the “test server” was powered up on the network in its place. All applications were then tested to ensure that the recovery was a success.
The company now had 100% confidence in their backups. An additional benefit of the exercise was that the company found that the “test server” could be used to test new applications and upgrades on their critical servers, before these upgrades wereimplemented on the “live servers”.
